Girl with Earring after Jan VerMeer. This was painted actual size, attempting to match ground, paint vehicles and brush work. The painting was copied on a scanner for reproduction here, so some of the drapery and background were cut off. One of the advantages of reproducing artwork with a computer is that you can show the details of brushwork, which to an artist, are often more interesting than the painting seen as a whole. In real life, you cannot SEE your own brush work without holding the picture up to your nose. That is hardly a good way to contemplate things! But here I can see the brush work up close in a comfortable way, so it is a constant temptation to show close up Detail. |
