Model Sketch at the Schuler School . This was my first painting attempt when I attended the Schuler School in Baltimore in the Summer of 1983.
The model sat on a chair on a platform surrounded by us with our easels and paints. She was as still as could be. After thirty minutes or so a little bell rang in her pocket. She pulled out a timer and got up and took a break. This happened every half hour for three hours or so.
I remembered that little kitchen timer. It sort of banished any thoughts of art as a floating, ethereal activity.
Much of the painting is my own, but I believe there are certain passages that are pure Ann Schuler.
