Marilyn

Marilyn Monroe. A sketch from a photo of perhaps the most photographed of all the movie stars. the photo probably dated from about 1953.

She must have had something, otherwise Joe Dimaggio (a New York Yankee and a regular guy) and then Arthur Miller (a leftish New York playwright-intellectual) wouldn't have married her. Perhaps they were in love with the image created by Hollywood. Perhaps they were entranced by the paradox of her image as a temptress and the reality of her frailty of mind and spirit.

In any event, most of us who grew up in the 'Fifties thought she was the most exciting woman alive. Today, I expect, she would be dismissed as a joke.
