Maria Kambouris. A young Greek-American commissioned me to paint his grandmother who still lived in Greece. He gave me a group of photos and I made three drawnings from them. He chose one and I painted it, larger than life.
If I photographed the painting after it was finished, and I probably did, I have not been able to find it. This transparency was shot when the painting was about a day's work away from completion. The translucent quality is caused by the chalk in the paint, not by white pigment. A Detail of the head suggests the brushwork.
