Celia in Red Knit. I painted Celia many times, but none of the paintings seemed to capture what I was looking for. There are other paintings in the Galleries, if you missed them. It is as though people are so elusive that you must paint different aspects of them successively.
Then of course there are the artist's own limitations and his laziness. Also the camera has displaced the artist as a recorder of history and people. If the artist imitates a camera, he isn't creating art. He is simply carrying out a technical, craft-type process. This is allright if that is what is wanted.
